6 Beginner’s Tips For Water Sports: Wakeboard & Wakesurf

Wakeboarding and wakesurfing are this summer’s hottest water activities.

To help you get started with either sport, we have integrated the 6 most useful beginner’s tips!

As a new rider, experience a stress-free and fun-filled first session with our introductory guide.

1. How much does wakeboarding/wakesurfing cost?

Many of you are probably wondering whether or not these activities are expensive. How much will they set you back?

Contrary to popular belief, these activities are very affordable!

For example, take a look at one of our wakeboarding packages.

This package’s speedboat can hold a maximum of 7 people, so if you split the total package price of 1300 HKD into 7, each person ends up paying only 185 HKD, even on weekends and public holidays!

It should be noted that our licensed instructors have suggested that each new rider get 30 minutes on the board at a time to properly get the hang of things. Therefore, additional hours can be added on if your party is larger.

Included in the package price, as mentioned earlier, are our licensed instructors and boat crews. Both are highly experienced and will adjust the lesson and boat speed according to you, so there is no need to worry!

2. Where are the best locations to wakeboard/wakesurf in Hong Kong?

In general, Sai Kung is the best place to go. It is one of our favorite areas of Hong Kong! Its beautiful countryside will provide a picturesque backdrop of deep green and clear blue, perfect for your first or next session.

💡 If you choose Sai Kung, you can stop in Nam Fung Wan, Tai Long Wan, or Half Moon Bay. These are all great spots for water sports, so it is completely up to you where you go! You can also ask your boat captain for his or her recommendations.

👉 Check out one of our Sai Kung packages!

💡 Tai Po, another part of Sai Kung, has several lovely bays as well. These include Pak Shek Kok and Mirs Bay.

👉 Check out one of our Tai Po packages!

💡 Of course, there are also plenty of nice locations that are closer to Hong Kong Island, such as the surfing hot spots Big Wave Bay and Tung Lung Chau.

👉 Check out one of our urban packages!

💡 Please note that most of our packages are for morning sessions (9 AM to 12 PM), though we will try our best to accommodate you.

👉 Browse all of our water sports packages!

3. Is wakeboarding/wakesurfing for me?

Most likely! There is no age limit for these activities. Whether you are 5 or 65, you can learn to ride!

That’s right, even children can participate, as long as they are not afraid of the water!

(We provide life jackets in case you or anyone in your party does not know how to swim.)

There are also no weight restrictions, although lighter people will generally have an easier time getting started.

If you want to learn how to do tricks, wakesurfing may be a better choice for you, as it is cordless and less restrictive.

We will get into the differences between the two sports in the next section!

💡 If neither sport appeals to you, we offer other, increasingly popular water sports, such as flyboarding, hoverboarding, and jet skiing.

👉 Check out one of our hoverboarding packages!

👉 Check out one of our jet skiing packages!

4. What is the difference between the two sports?

So, what exactly is the difference between wakeboarding and wakesurfing?

Well, wakeboarding basically entails surfing atop the waves created by the wake of a speedboat that is pulling you along.

There are boots attached to the wakeboard that you strap into, so it is similar to snowboarding.

While riding, you hold onto a cord attached to the speedboat so that you stay afloat behind it.

Wakesurfing is essentially the same activity, except it is more similar to surfing.

This is because it is cordless, and there are no straps for your feet, making this sport less restrictive and more ideal for doing tricks!

👉 Check out one of our wakesurfing packages!

5. Can wakeboarding/wakesurfing be dangerous?

To be fair, every sport has a certain level of risk.

A bit of physical fitness is necessary, as the body needs to maneuver the waves while keeping its balance.

Therefore, muscle strain is a possibility; however, if you fall off your board, the most you will get is a mouthful of salt water.

To reduce the chance of injury, please follow the professional guidance of your licensed instructor to maintain the correct posture and develop the fundamental skills.

Appropriate protective equipment, warm-up exercises, and safety rules should also be incorporated.

Again, we offer life jackets for those who want them.

The most important thing is to relax and have fun!

6. I’m worried about making a mistake and crashing. Any advice?

Yes! Don’t worry!

It is normal for beginners to feel nervous, but it is important that you try to relax.

Pulling at the cord and remaining tense and tight will only make you less balanced and increase the chances of your falling off.

When you relax, you will be more comfortable maneuvering the waves.

Also, do not try to stand too early!

Beginners are often anxious to get started and ride successfully, but standing too early will negatively affect your balance.

Take it slow and easy your first time!

Learn the basics first, then try to do tricks; otherwise, you run the risk of straining yourself and losing your balance.

The basics will include finding your center of gravity, which will help you feel confident on the board!

We hope that our brief guide has inspired you and your friends to get your adrenaline fix out on the water this weekend!

We currently offer five featured food packages, ranging from more upscale menus to more simple junk boat party sets.

After choosing the package best suited for your party, a window will pop up similar to the one below.

In the window, you will find the details of the package, as well as a drop-down menu of the package’s variations, the menus themselves, the delivery method, and the pick-up points.

After selecting the quantity desired, you can then add to cart!

Note: We will do our best to accommodate any dietary restrictions/special requests regardless of which package you select, so please just let us know beforehand!

Exclusive Kowloon Shangri-La Boating Menu

This package is perhaps better fitted for a more formal event on one of our cruisers or yachts, and the quality of the food is absolutely guaranteed!

Vegetarian options are also available!

With this set, you’ll get delicious Thai dishes like:

  • Crispy Shrimp Slices
  • Thai Lettuce Wraps
  • Thai-Style Pork Neck
  • Spring Rolls
  • Crispy Chicken Wings
  • Chicken/Pork Satay
  • Thai-Style Fried Rice

Drinks include mineral water and sodas, such as Coca-Cola and Sprite!

Junk Party Set

By far our most affordable option is our junk party set!

With catering available for anywhere between 20 and 60 people, this package also offers plenty of flexibility!

You will get a tasty mix of dishes, such as:

  • French Fries
  • Chicken Nuggets
  • Mini Hot Dogs
  • Chicken Wings
  • Garlic Bread
  • Spaghetti
  • Fried Rice

There are also a few Thai-Style dishes and desserts included in each menu variation!

Buffet Set

You may be expecting some very hungry guests, in which case, we recommend our buffet set!

There are three menu variations available (A, B, and C), all of which have a minimum of 20 people.

Each menu variation has four courses: appetizers, salads, hot dishes, and desserts. Menu C also has a carving station!

Although each menu’s selections differ, here are some items you can expect:

  • Chinese Roast Platter (BBQ Pork, Smoked Duck Breast, Soy Sauce Chicken & Sausage)
  • Sweet & Sour Pork
  • Italian Assorted Vegetables with Parma Ham, Dried Beef & Salami
  • Singaporean Fried Noodles
  • Lobster, Prawn & Fresh Fruit Salad
  • Maple Glazed Ham With Rosemary Honey Sauce
  • Strawberry Cheesecake

You also have the option to add on professional catering services for either 4 hours or 8 hours, depending on your needs, making this package versatile for any type of event!

Light Meal Set

A much lighter alternative to our buffet set is, well, our light meal set!

This set has three tiers: the standard cocktail party menu, the superior cocktail menu, and the deluxe cocktail menu.

Each menu requires a minimum of 25 people (the deluxe menu requires a minimum of 30), and each averages about 8-10 pieces of food per person, with differing selections.

Menus A and B feature cold canapés, sandwiches, hot finger foods, and desserts, including:

  • Pesto Tomato With Smoked Mozzarella Cheese
  • Smoked Salmon Rosettes
  • Sushi Platter (California Rolls & Tuna Maki Rolls ) – Menu B Only
  • Bacon Wrapped Scallops
  • Vegetable Samosas With Mint Sauce
  • Tandoori Chicken Kebabs
  • Mini Fruit Tarts

Beverages are also included in both menus, although Menu B boasts a two-hour free flow of non-alcoholic beverages!

The final menu, Menu C, has the aforementioned dishes, plus a few more.

It is the most extravagant of the three, as it includes wine and beer, as well as a dim sum station for dumplings!

Professional catering services are also available for this set.

Some Things To Note

Although we have a wide range of foods for you to choose from, there are a few details that remain the same for each menu.

Please take note of the following things:

  • All menu items will be served in aluminum trays.
  • All packages will be delivered to the pier of your choosing, depending on which piers are available for selection for each package.
  • You must pick up the deliveries at the pier.

As mentioned earlier, the boat’s captain and crew speak fluent English, so there is no need to worry about any communication barriers.

Although pets are not allowed on board, children are absolutely welcome! (Unfortunately, there is no children’s discount at this time.)

In addition to everything already included in the package price, we do also offer extras that you can add on, if you so choose. (We will talk about these a bit later.)

Does this all sound great?

We think so, too!

You may now be wondering how much this all will cost, so without further ado…

💸 Price 💸

Before any extras are added on, the total package price is only 6500 HKD!

Divided among the maximum capacity of 23 people, that comes out to only about 283 HKD per person!

One-Day Guide To Cheung Chau Island + Junk boat recommendation

Cheung Chau: Beautiful Scenery, Island Vibes & A Perfect Escape From The City

Located southwest of Hong Kong Island and just west of Lamma Island, Cheung Chau is a haven just a short ferry ride away from the bustling city. It was traditionally a fishing village, and you can still see remnants of its rich history; however, it is now also a major tourist attraction. Hong Kongers find this island both quaint and charming, and they frequent it regularly for relaxing day trips, or for fun-filled festivals such as the Cheung Chau Bun Festival.

Because we also love this island’s natural beauty, we have integrated our best tips and recommendations to bring you a complete one-day guide to Cheung Chau, with both walking and boating routes, so you can see Cheung Chau from multiple angles!

Whether it will be your first time exploring the island, or if you’ve already been several times but want to pick up some new ideas for your next trip, this article is for you!

1. Start the day off with an adventure!

Cheung Chau Pier

🔆 Walking Route

💡 Central Pier → Cheung Chau Pier (40 Minutes) → Sai Wan Tin Hau Temple (15 Minutes) → Cheung Po Tsai Cave (10 Minutes) → Stonehenge (5 Minutes) →  Cheung Chau Pier Pedestrian Street (20 Minutes) → Cheung Chau Tung Wan & Kwun Yam Bay Beach (10 Minutes) → Cheung Chau North Temple (10 Minutes)

After disembarking from your ride from Central Pier to Cheung Chau Pier, veer right, past downtown Cheung Chau. Follow the signs for about 15 minutes, and you will reach Sai Wan Tin Hau Temple.

Sai Wan Tin Hau Temple

Keep walking for another 10 minutes, and you will arrive at Cheung Po Tsai Cave, a must-see destination in Cheung Chau.

Cheung Po Tsai Cave

A few minutes further along that same path, and you will see five crumbling boulders, the famous Stonehenge in Cheung Chau. There are also a few other cool-looking rock formations in the vicinity.

Rock Formation

Head back for 20 minutes to reach Cheung Chau Pier Pedestrian Street to grab a bite of street food for lunch or go shopping.

Cheung Chau Pier Pedestrian Street

After eating lunch, take a walk to digest it! A short walk along the pier will take you to Tung Wan Bay Beach, and another few minutes past that is Kwun Yam Bay Beach. Both spots feature clear water and sandy beaches, perfectly suited for leisure and water activities.

After a bit of cooling off in the water, it’s time to soldier on! Follow the signs for about 10 minutes, and you will arrive at Cheung Chau North Temple, your final stop on this particular route.

🔆 Boating Route

💡 Central Pier → Cheung Chau Island Tour (2-4 Hours)

Going to Cheung Chau for a good time and to engage in a new experience, but don’t want to walk around all day? We highly recommend trying a round-the-island tour by boat!

This 360-degree boat tour is guided by local Cheung Chau people, so you know you’re getting the real deal! It is truly the best way to enjoy the island’s incredible sea views.

This tour includes Cheung Po Tsai Cave, West Bay Tin Hau Temple, White Pelican Bay, and some odd rock formations, all so you can see a different side of Cheung Chau.

You may be thinking, “I have been to Cheung Chau many times. What is so special about visiting again to see it all from a boat?”

Well, the boat captain can take you to places you can’t reach by foot, so you can explore the niche attractions that only Cheung Chau locals know, while the tour guide introduces them along the way.

You can also let us know what sights you want to see, and we can arrange the most suitable boat trip for you!

The boat can even be parked by the shore, so you can get off and explore further.

Cheung Chau can be visited by foot and by boat, and either way, it is an unforgettable experience!
