Common Questions for Boat Renting Beginners
Summer is here and it’s the peak season for renting boats and having boat parties! With so many types of yachts available, how do you choose the right one? This time, Holimood recommends 8 must-go river boats that are suitable for wake surfing, stand-up paddling, and swimming. Don’t hesitate, gather your friends and rent a boat now!
We have compiled a list of questions for “yacht party” beginners and answered them all at once, hoping to help some beginners!
1. What is the first step to renting a boat for a “boat party”?
First, consider your budget, as it directly affects the type of boat and activities. To save money, we chose to go on weekdays, which is more cost-effective. It only costs HK$6,400, while on weekends it costs HK$10,000!
In addition, we boarded the boat at the Sai Kung Pier, so there was no additional charge. Our main goal for this “boat party” was to “eat, play, and relax,” and we didn’t pursue any particular water activity. Plus, the boat itself provided some water facilities, so we didn’t have to pay extra to play other activities.
💡Of course, if you want to board at a city pier and sail to Sai Kung Bay, it is also possible, but most of them require additional payment based on the arrangement of the boat owner.
2. Is “boat party” always expensive? Do you have to spend more to have fun?
Absolutely not! I used to think that renting a boat must be expensive, but after experiencing “boat party” once, I found that it’s only “expensive if you want to play expensive.”
This time, I chose to book a package through a boat reservation website – Yacht Holimood, which included food, onboard entertainment facilities, and several free water activities, starting from only HK$310 per person!
💡Note that some Sai Kung boats only provide food and not drinks, so you can add extra if needed. Beer, soda, and apple cider are available!

💡If you want to play many water activities to your heart’s content, you can also add extra payment.
The boat we chose that day included food and we didn’t have to pay extra. There were also many different types of food, and the portions were very generous, very filling!
We played several water activities provided by the boat owner, including:
3. How do you choose the right boat?
There are many types of boats, including yachts, activity boats, and sailboats, each with different models and providing different activities. Choose a boat that can provide the services and activities that meet your personal preferences and needs.
Some boat models provide specific water activities, such as:

4. How do you rent a boat?
Rent a boat through a boat reservation platform.
Enter a few simple details on the website, and many relevant boat packages will be displayed. But as a beginner, how do you choose?
So I contacted customer service immediately, and she recommended several boat packages based on my requirements. After discussing with my friends, we quickly made a decision and successfully booked a boat online in a few minutes! Interested friends can check out the Yacht Holimood website.
5. How early do you need to rent a boat / yacht?
I didn’t know how early to book a boat, and I decided to do “yacht party” late. So I only rented a boat in early April.
But May is the off-season for “yacht party,” so we barely rented a boat even one month in advance, but there were only a few choices. However, if you want to go out to sea during the peak season (June to September), especially on weekends, booking only one month in advance is wishful thinking, and at least two months should be reserved.
💡Beginners can try to go out on weekdays during the off-season because the boat schedule is more flexible, and the price is relatively affordable!
6. What are the boat routes?
Of course, different boarding locations have different boat routes. As for our trip to Sai Kung, we went to Nam Fung Bay, Tai She Wan, and Half Moon Bay. Friends who want to go on a boat trip in Sai Kung must go to Tai She Wan!
Not only are there fewer people, but the water quality is also clear, and the place is clean. Some of us are familiar with the local environment, so we suggested the above route to the boat owner. But even if you are not familiar, don’t worry, as far as I know, the boat owner will arrange the most suitable boat route according to the situation on that day.
7. Can you reschedule if the weather is bad?
We happened to have a sunny day when we went, so there was no problem. But the customer service also reminded us in advance that general weather conditions (such as cloudy or rainy days) cannot be rescheduled, only bad weather (including a No. 3 typhoon signal and a black rainstorm warning) can be rescheduled.
Although I am also a “yacht party” beginner, I hope the above sharing can answer some common questions for everyone, allowing you to have a fun and satisfying “yacht party”
💡Reminder, “yacht party” peak season has begun (June to September), so if you want to rent a boat to go out to sea, be sure to act fast!
If you are also a beginner or do not want to bother with various choices, such as selecting water activities, dining, and additional activities, you can choose their recommended package.
